BESTies– I am so excited to fully commit myself to my ultimate passion in life!!! The ONE thing I was put on this earth to do. My purpose, my soul’s reason for creation, the thing I love to do the most, the reason I get out of bed each morning,……. I just need to figure out what it is.
I really don’t know what my passion in life is, how scary is that? At 39 years of age, this is pretty concerning. Shouldn’t I know this by now?? What’s even scarier, is contemplating the idea that I may not have one true purpose in life or even if I do, I might not ever find it. I wonder if everyone has a true passion in life, that one true calling that makes them feel complete. That’s what I’m searching for.
I am passionate about a lot of things in my life; my family, my friends, my sweet puppy. But, I don’t feel like I know what I am supposed to be doing with my life in my career and for my own personal fulfillment. I struggle with feeling guilty for wanting more, I mean my life is pretty great, I should be happy with what I have and I am, but I do want more. I don’t want great, I want amazing. And I really don’t think that’s a bad thing.
I started really feeling like something was missing a year or so ago. It was a nagging thought in the back of my head that just kept getting louder and louder. I kept thinking about my life and I just knew that as great as it was, I wasn’t truly happy with myself. I didn’t really know what to do about it, so I did what any smart woman does…..I spent hours on Pinterest searching for things like “How to live your best life” and “How to find your passion”. I read so many articles and took so many quizzes! It was time-consuming, frustrating, but sometimes pretty funny. Here’s a small excerpt from one of the “Find Your Passion” quizzes I took.
Question 1: What was your favorite thing to do as a child?
My Response: To play dress up and do gymnastics
Question 2: What did you dream of being when you were a child
My Response: An Olympic Gymnast or dolphin trainer
Question 3: What is your favorite topic to talk about?
My Response: Other people and all the problems with corporate America…but mostly other people
Question 4: What do you like doing so much that you lose track of time
My Response: Eating, napping, reading, and Pinteresting
Question 5: What would you do with your life if money was not an issue?
My Response: I would travel all over the world with my friends and family and have many exotic pets, including at least one dolphin that I could ride anytime I want. I would have a personal chef, trainer, and beauty stylist and would look amazing at all times.
Based on my responses, It’s obvious that I should pursue my true passion of being a shallow, extremely wealthy, well-traveled woman with a pet dolphin? I mean this was just not super helpful.
I am starting to wonder if I might be setting myself up for disappointment by continuing to search for something that makes me feel super excited and fulfilled each and every day. Is that too much to ask? I honestly don’t know. Maybe some of us just have lots of different things we are pretty good at and enjoy, versus that one thing that is IT. I still wonder if I will have that moment where something just clicks and I know in my heart this is what I was meant to do? I really hope so.
So, since I don’t know what my passion is yet, I made a commitment to myself to try some new things. I wanted to start with some volunteering, so I can feel like I am making a positive impact in the world. I am very proud to say that I followed through on this commitment to myself and I just started volunteering with the Make A Wish Foundation. I completed my training a few weeks ago and had my first Wish Family visit last week. It was an awesome experience and very humbling. I am excited to help bring some joy to these families and also, to see what it brings to me personally.
I will continue to be passionate about my family, my friends, and my sweet puppy; because they are pretty awesome. I will continue to surround myself with people who share similar goals and visions. I will keep trying new things to see what inspires me. I will also continue to be passionate about this journey to live my BESTie life, because as hard as it is, it’s going to be SO worth it.
If you have any ideas for me, my favorite things include reading, dolphins, drinking wine/champagne with friends…and yes I already thought about opening a day spa where you can hang with your friends, and drink champagne while riding dolphins…the insurance is just too much.
If you have a story about finding your passion in life please let us all know! I want to encourage all of my BESTies to share their experiences so we can all learn and grow together.
XOXO Your BESTie,
Beth

I sometimes think it’s an unfair expectation that cliches put on us that we are supposed to have some ultimate passion. And it sets you up to feel unfulfilled. At the end of my life, I want a series of small joys to fill my memories. Held hands and snuggle time and crisp mornings and coffee and reminders of the way my stomach would flip a little when I complimented a stranger and their face would light up. I think starting with volunteering is a terrific way to pursue filling a need inside yourself. There is nothing better than helping others. I think it’s truly what we are here for. Xoxo
Love you and love your blog. You’re perfect and always have been. Xo

Thanks Anna! I think you are right, it is the small things that fill up our lives with wonderful memories. I think we can find joy even in the most mundane days. I am working to fill a void and I do think Make a Wish will help! Love you!!
